RECORD OF LODOSS WAR
EPISODE #8
"THE WARRIOR'S REQUIEM"

	Narrator
The war between the gods of light and darkness reached a climax in
which the mother goddess of the earth, Marfa, and the malevolent goddess,
Kardis, battled to the end.
After the fierce battle, the two goddesses perished like a flame flickering
away on the newly created land which was separated by the battle.
This land was later named by the people as the cursed island, "Lodoss."

FAUNN'S CASTLE

<Funeral for the deceased King Faunn>

	Narrator
The battle, which shook throughout the land of Lodoss, between Beld,
Marmo's Emperor of Darkness, and King Fawn of Vallis, ended with the death
of both. The people will hand down the story of this battle from generation
to generation as the "Battle of the Heroes." However, few people knew of the
work of the mysterious power that had occured there.

NEAR KARLA'S DOMAIN

	Slayn
Is that for Lairia?

	Gim
Yeah

	Slayn
I pictured something more showy for her.

	Gim
Remember this. This is something for Lairia, the woman with the appearance
of the one you know as Karla.
<He recalls the past of Lairia>

	Sheris
<standing upon a cliff>
Damn it. I can't stand this. The village chief, bowing down, crying for us to
protect the village.
Hey, doesn't it make you angry? What do you think?
Damn it. After the war ended, they drove us out as if we were the
troublemakers. What do those people at the village think we are?

	Orson
Where are they from?

	Sheris
I don't know.
A man who looks like a mercenary, a guy who looks like a thief, and an elf.

	Orson
An elf. Are they Marmo?

	Sheris
Maybe. This is bad. Just ahed is the village where we were hired from.

	Orson
This is of no concern of ours.

	Sheris
That's not the problem.

<Pan, Deid, Wood, and Eto ride on horses>

	Narrator
Pan and the others had settled a decision and were hurrying towards Karla's
palace.

<Sheris throws daggers at them. Eto and Wood fall down the side. Orson
points his sword at them>

	Eto
Wha'?

	Wood
Y...you

	Pan
Eto. Wood

	Sheris
Orson, I'm leaving them to you.

	Pan
<He turns around to look>
Wha'?
<He is attacked by Sheris>

	Deid
Pan

	Pan
Are you Marmo's remaining soldiers?

	Sheris
What about you?
<She gets attacked by Deid>
You need an elf's help to win against me?

	Pan
Deid, it's okay. They just misunderstood us.

	Deid
Kind of rough for misunderstanding

	Pan
<He gets attacked by Sheris>
Wait. We aren't Marmo.

	Sheris
You have an elf with you.

	Deid
I'm amazed. Can't you distinguish between me and a Dark Elf?

	Sheris
What?

<Pan attacks Sheris and then again. Her sword flies out of her hand. Orson
sees Pan pointing his sword at Sheris>

	Wood
Uhh...ohh...

	Deid
Or are you also saying that Marmo has Priests of Falis.

	Sheris
Wha'?

	Pan
We were in a hurry, so don't get in our way.
<Pan gets attacked by Orson>

	Deid
It can't be.

	Sheris
Oh no. Put away your sword. Quickly now

	Pan
What?

	Sheris
Hurry

	Pan
Wha'?
<He gets pushed away by Orson>

	Deid
Pan

	Sheris
Orson, stop. Calm down.

<Orson splits hard earth with sword>

	Pan
Uh...what the hell is he?

	Sheris
If Orson starts, nobody can stop him. So, put away your sword.

	Pan
What do you mean telling me to do something that reckless all of a sudden.

	Eto
Pan

	Deid
Wait, can he be a berserker?

<Orson attacks Pan. Sheris stops him with her sword>

	Pan
Wha'?

	Sheris
Orson, stop. I'm okay. The village's okay. Nobody's going to kill anyone; no
one will die.
No

	Pan
Wha'?

	Sheris
Don't kill him. I'll apologize for mistaking you as Marmo. If you need help
with anything, I'll do it for free. Just don't kill him.
<Sheris catches Orson as he falls>
Orson's my partner.

	Deid
Pan, let's go. We don't have time to meddle with a berserker right now.

	Pan
A berserker?

	Deid
He is possessed by the fairy of madness and anger, Hyurrie.
<editor's note: Okay, okay, we know, we know that Hyurrie is supposed to be
Fury, but we didn't want to confuse readers between the word fury and the
fairy, so we changed the spelling accordingly to fit the Japanese
pronounciation>

	Eto
You mean the one that will make you be unafraid of death?

	Wood
Wha'?

	Deid
Exactly, they say that only dead bodies remain after a berserker passes
through.

<Pan, Deid, Wood, and Eto leave on their horses>

BACK TO SLAYN AND GIM

	Slayn
Gim

	Gim
I can't wait any longer.

	Slayn
But how do you intend to separate Lairia from Karla?

	Gim
Lairia will remember, I'm positive.
Slayn, if you intend to use magic on me again...

	Slayn
Ah...
Gim

	Gim
Let me go alone.
<He enters Karla's domain alone and confronts her>

	Karla
I was looking forward to this, and only a dwarf came?

	Gim
Karla, no, I mean you're Lairia.
You're the daughter of the priestess of Marfa, Neese. Remember Lairia.

	Karla
I thought I said this. That girl's consciousness is gone. I am the one here in
existence.

	Gim
Hmph

	Karla
Thou can'st harm me. Tis the body of the girl called Lairia.

	Gim
Wha'?
Ah
<He drops his battle-axe>

	Karla
Thou have much courage, dwarf. However, I am not that merciful.

	Slayn
<He sees the magic>
Wha'?
<He hears horses and turns around>
Ah...
Pan

	Gim
If you want a body, I'll trade.

	Karla
Thou seriously think too highly of thyself.
<She sends him up in the air and lets him go. Slayn catches him with his
magic>
Wha'?

	Pan
Gim
K...Karla, why? Why did you even kill Beld?

	Karla
Oh? Wouldst thou have preferred for Beld to have conquered Lodoss after
that?

	Pan
What?

	Karla
Didst thou think I would truly give Lodoss to Beld?

	Pan
Wha'? Give Lodoss?

	Karla
The results would have been the same if Faunn survived. 'Tis was all to save
Lodoss from destruction. 'Tis was all so that Lodoss will continue to exist
forever.

	Pan
You lie.

	Karla
I love Lodoss.

	Pan
Do you expect me to believe that?

	Eto
Wha'?

	Deid
Pan

	Wood
Hey...
<He holds onto Pan>

	Pan
Wood
Slayn

	Wood
Pan

	Eto
Oh

	Deid
Pan

	Pan
Wha'?
Uh
Wha'?

	Karla
Look upon the ruins of the country of magic, Kastool.

	Pan
The country of magic, Kastool?

	Karla
The brutality of fighting in trying to take back the ruling power... 'Tis was
once Lodoss. The destruction of my birthplace, Kastool, gave me one
conclusion. The power should not be centralized in one place. As long as the
divided powers keep cutting themselves, there will be no complete
destruction.
Tis why I always start small skirmishes.
I have been protecting Lodoss that way for five hundred years.

	Pan
That can't be...

	Karla
Howbeit, even now, 'tis not too late.
<She goes up to him>
Join me in protecting Lodoss.
Come, take off thy old armor and put on the new robes.

	Pan
<He sees the image of his father on the sword>
I...
I won't be misled by your suggestions. Those who guide Lodoss shouldn't
control other's life to their liking. We aren't the pawns to be moved the way
you want.

	Deid
Pan

	Eto
Are you okay?

	Wood
This is bad. At this rate, we'll be killed before we can get the circlet off.

	Gim
Circlet?

	Slayn
Yes, Wort said Karla's true form is the forehead circlet.

	Gim
Hmm
Lairia

	Karla
It appeareth I guessed in error.
'Tis the pawn when controlled. I have no use of those who will not be moved.
<She casts spell>

	Pan
Wha'?
<He turns around>
Gim
Gim

	Slayn
Wait. You'll get killed if you go out now.

	Pan
B...but...

	Gim
Remember, Lairia.

	Karla
<as Lairia takes over for a brief second>
You

	Gim
Lairia. You're Lairia.
<He falls on his knees>

	Wood
Shit. Can't we do anything?

<Gim opens up his hand to reveal the hairpiece>

	Karla
Wha'?
<She lets go of the spell>

	Slayn
Pan, now

<They all attack Karla>

	Gim
<Gim throws his battle-axe and knocks off the circlet>
Lairia

	Pan
Gim
Gim. Gim. Gim

	Wood
Wha'?
<He sees the circlet coming to him>
Uhh...

AT THE GRAVESITE

	Slayn
Gim completed his purpose. I'm sure he must've felt satisfied.

	Lairia
Gim

	Deid
Uh...

	Eto
Wood

AT DESERT SOMEWHERE

<Wood walks alone>

	Narrator
The flow of time does not stop. However, when one realizes it, a new chapter
of history has already begun.

If you plan to subtitle with this script, please mention that it was
translated by "LODOSS WARRIORS, 1991". Also do not forget that
if you subtitle, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE the subtitled copy. If you do, you
will be in the act of piracy and if you're caught, you'll be in serious
shit. Subtitled copies can be obtained from William Chow at
wchow@questor.wimsey.bc.ca as soon as they subtitles
it. (At least if you get it from Chow, you'll be assured of a
good subtitled copy and then a million different subtitled copies won't
be on the loose.)
Stay tuned for more Lodoss updates and scripts in the future.
